Key Responsibilities:

Overseeing the management and coordination of all active matters, ensuring that deadlines are timeously met and cases progress smoothly towards hearing. This included managing multiple cases simultaneously with voluminous discovery, witness statements and complex case law.

Evaluating case law, statutes and regulations in order to provide clients with concise and up-to-date legal advice and to identify vulnerabilities or legal risks faced by client.

Overseeing the work of less experienced team members, providing conducive feedback and ensuring that a high standard of work is maintained at all times. This included mentoring junior associates and delegating appropriate tasks to them whilst maintaining control.

Maintaining clear and regular communication with clients about case developments, legal options and risks.

Conducting in-depth legal research on technical, niche and ambiguous areas of law, preparing opinions and offering clients such as Prescient Securities, Mergence Investment Managers and Argon Asset Management an assessment of legal options and legal risks.

Drafting and reviewing pleadings and notices for a wide range of arbitrations, actions and applications including liquidation and sequestration applications, exceptions, summonses.

Managing responses to regulatory enquiries from regulators such as the Competition Commission, Financial Sector Conduct Authority and the Johannesburg Stock Exchange.

Consulting and coordinating with clients, expert witnesses and senior counsel for the purposes of trial preparation in order to identify potential legal risk. Attending court hearings and arbitrations.

Conducting forensic legal investigations and advised on potential exposures and mitigation
