I started my legal career as candidate attorney in 2015 for a period of two years (2015 – 2017). In this period, I practised in our general litigation department under the supervision of the Head Litigation Director, and other senior attorneys. I was exposed to various areas of law (mentioned above). My duties in this period including drafting various court pleadings, legal documents and correspondence, research, court appearances, preparing bundles for court proceedings and arbitrations, serving and filing documents at the various courts and attending consultations with my directors and other senior attorneys. At this early stage, I was exposed to working on matters from inception, the initial consultation to conclusion under supervision. In 2017, I was admitted as an attorney of the Western Cape High Court of South Africa, and was promoted to a junior attorney within the same Law Firm. I practiced as a junior attorney from 2017 to 2020. In this period, I gained further, extensive experience in the various practice areas of law, now having more responsibilities, preparing a client base, consulting and assisting with legal matters by myself (still with oversight and supervision). My further duties also included drafting legal opinions and memorandums, consulting with Counsel / Advocates, arguing matters at lower court levels, actively involved in assisting and preparing for Arbitrations. In 2020, I was promoted to Senior Associate within the same Law firm. My duties included the above, but now having to run and manage my own practice and client base essentially, from inception, the initial consultation to finalisation of the matter. In this period, I was also actively involved in training and mentoring the incoming Candidate and Junior Attorneys at the Firm. I practiced as a senior associate until 2023.
